Hi! I’m Christine M. Hopkins, and I’m a journalist-slash-library employee based in Des Moines, Iowa. I currently write about women’s basketball at SB Nation’s Swish Appeal, and I’m the co-founding editor at the literary journal OUT/CAST and the nonfiction editor at |tap| lit mag.

My previous news experience began as a writer at Mic in 2013 and extends through 2017 at the Iowa State Daily (where I was a reporter, copy editor, and editorial board member) and Harlot Media (where I proofread, edited, and contributed a satirical piece for the April Fool’s Day issue).

I have experience working with undergraduate and graduate students on academic and creative writing through my job as a Communication Consultant at the Iowa State University Writing and Media Center. As an undergraduate at the University of Iowa, I participated in several creative writing workshops. I also have experience analyzing creative writing and providing feedback through my editorial internship at Cleaver Magazine.

I have a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Iowa with second concentrations in English and Rehabilitation & Counselor Education, completed graduate coursework as part of the University of Alabama’s M.A. Health Studies program, and completed B.S. coursework for the Journalism and Mass Communication major at Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication.

I am proficient in Associated Press style (though I prefer to use Oxford commas whenever I can), MLA style, APA style, HTML/CSS, and WordPress, and I have a working knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.
